My response:

I myself have been subjected to the inconsistent driving practices that take place at the intersection of Eastman Road and Stone Drive. As a 5-year resident of Kingsport and a 21-year resident of Knoxville, I feel safer driving in Kingsport than in Knoxville at every location but that intersection. I hope that with the assistance of the Times-News making people aware locals will live up to the model city's reputation by being model drivers.

I posted my blog to a local newspaper listing and found that not many people locally have their personal blog on there. The only reason I ended up doing so is that I created a profile on the Times-News website so that I could post in support of the cameras being added at red lights and figured, "why waste this profile." (BTW yes I know red light cameras are mostly a way to generate cash for the local police dept. But they need the money. Trust me, our local police spend more time filling out paper work on archaic computers than they should have to due to budgetary restraints).

Anyways I wasn't surprised to find my former boss' site on Times-News as well. He is a very religious individual and his devotion to following Jesus reminds me a lot of my Pa. While Rich (that's my former boss' name) is much more secular than my Pa they both still preach to follow Christ.

As you have probably noticed by my lack of religious discussion on this and my former blog (archived at bethnbaer.com) religion isn't a major focus of my life. In fact I would go so far as to say I am about as focused on the material world as is possible. I haven't met very many people who openly admit that.

Anyways one more thing regarding Rich. One time after a rational plea from me he gave me the opportunity to prove to his boss that I should remain on a rescaled sales team at the company we worked for. I've spoken to that in many an interview as an example of a time that I had influence and as a result met a goal. I'm in management now and I still use that example when coaching my team to remind them that if they have a good idea or a concern that they should bring it to me because I've been in their place and know what it is like when someone stands up for you in the workplace. Rich gave me a chance and while we do not have the same management style giving people a chance is a lesson I have not forgotten.
